Echoes of a Lost Civilisation explores the mysterious relationship between time, memory and the material traces of existence.

The work evokes the remains of an ancient, forgotten world – a place where fragments of history, organic structures and layers of accumulated experience seem to merge into a single visual landscape.

Its richly textured surface combines charcoal greys, muted silvers, earthy ochres, moss-like greens and subtle traces of blue. Intricate patterns, irregular markings and fragmented forms create the impression of an archaeological discovery: something once buried, gradually exposed and brought back into view.

Rather than depicting a recognisable place or civilisation, the composition invites the viewer to imagine what might have existed before us.

The central idea behind this work is the persistence of memory beyond the boundaries of time.

Civilisations disappear. Structures collapse. Landscapes transform. Yet traces remain.

Through layered textures, contrasting surfaces and an intentionally weathered aesthetic, I explore the possibility that matter itself can become a form of historical record.

The artwork exists somewhere between abstraction, imagined archaeology and the natural processes of erosion and transformation.

It asks a quiet but powerful question:

What remains of a world after its civilisation has disappeared?

Perhaps not everything is lost. Perhaps some stories simply change their form.

Artist’s Statement

I am interested in the unseen narratives held within surfaces, textures and fragments.

In this work, I wanted to create the feeling of discovering something ancient – something that carries the weight of time without revealing its complete story.

The composition developed through an exploration of texture, contrast and organic visual patterns. I allowed the surface to retain its irregularities and imperfections, because these are essential to its character.

For me, Echoes of a Lost Civilisation is not simply an image of a forgotten past. It is a reflection on memory, impermanence and the enduring traces of existence.
