Whale’s Secret – Wimbledon Flow

Whale’s Secret – Wimbledon Flow

A mystical forest glade in Wimbledon with a flowing stream circling ancient trees, made using stained glass painting, fusing and lead came. Deep blues, glowing browns and textured whites create high energy and deep calm.

This artwork captures the “Whale’s Secret Place” – a hidden glade deep in Wimbledon Common where legend says a gentle whale spirit rests by a fast‑flowing stream. Dark silhouetted trees frame the scene, their branches reaching towards a misty light, while the central spiral of brown and blue glass suggests swirling water full of life force. Created with glass paints applied by hand for colour and texture, then fused in a kiln for permanence, and assembled with traditional lead came strips for strength. The result is a window panel that shifts from high‑energy movement (the water’s flow) to profound relaxation (the quiet woods), perfect for bringing nature’s peace indoors.

Inspired by walks in Wimbledon Common, I imagined a secret spot where the land meets hidden water energy – like a whale’s underwater world bubbling up through the earth. I painted blues and purples on glass for the misty air, fused earthy browns for the streambed, and used lead lines to lock the trees in place. When light hits it, the flow seems alive, balancing excitement and stillness.
